Background

  • The practice was under performing with the principal dentist working 5 days a week for inadequate income.
  • The total expenses in the practice were too high and meant that production had to increase greatly.
  • Owner was already working working full time and stressed.

Objectives

  1. To increase production by increasing case acceptance.
  2. To focus on enhancing the patient experience. Enhance the operation of the practice with better systems and protocols to eliminate waste and poor appointment planning.
  3. Work less days per year.

Implementation & Strategy

  • Created an Annual Plan with daily production goals and then tracked in consistently.
  • Surveyed Team and understood pain points within the practice.
  • Created a Team culture and clear purpose for the practice with team meetings, daily huddles and deeper understanding of the practice goals.
  • Practice attended all Prime workshops and Primespeak. They embraced Primespeak and the Coach focussed on helping to create new patient exam process.
  • A hygiene and OHT department was created after a practice analysis.
  • Updated their website which included SEO.
  • Development of a strong Coach and Client relationship resulting in working closely to track success and and areas of opportunities.

Review

Integration of hyg and OHT successfully, brings in 40% of total production (industry averages: 15-18%).  Healthy team with long tenure (PM and Hygienist reaching 10 year milestones). Training of OHT to help with ortho work has increased owners productivity. Successful marketing campaigns with GDW and increased ortho/ invisalign cases. Greatly reduced financial and personal stress given practices performance and reduction in days worked each year. The PD’s openness to new ideas and commitment to implement them (including his commitment to clinical training and new equipment) all contributed to the success. Note: The increase in production includes the C-19 year where they were closed for 2 months.
